Policies and Expectations
Building Hours: Monday – Friday 7:55am-2:55pm
Contact: Mr. Cieply 435-4635 or [email protected] (email is the easiest for me to respond)
Instrument storage: There is a storage room in the back of the band room that students may use since many instruments will not fit in the school lockers. Students should only leave instruments in the storage room during school hours. Instruments should not be left over night, as that is when practicing takes place at home.
Renting an Instrument: J.T. Roberts has very few instruments for students to use. The best way to ensure that your child will have an instrument is to rent from a music store. Percussion students need a percussion kit with a bell set and a drum pad. Tuba, French horn and baritone students do not need to rent instruments from the store. Those instruments may be rented from the school. I recommend renting an instrument from Empire Winds. If you would like to compare prices/service, other music stores are Music and Arts, Oneida Music and Midstate Music. Order forms may be picked up at the stores or you can go to their websites:
Empire Winds: empirewinds.com 458-0036 Music And Arts: musicarts.com 409-0901
Oneida Music: oneidamusic.com 363-2830 Midstate Music: midstatemusic.com 314-7027
I understand that these rental options might not be financially possible. If that is the case, school instrument rentals are available on a first come first serve basis, the cost is $8. Please keep in mind that the school has an extremely limited number of instruments available. Please Contact Mr. Cieply if you need to rent an instrument from the school.
Purchasing an Instrument: The same stores that rent instruments also sell instruments. Please do not buy an instrument from a department store such as Walmart, B.J.s or Sam’s Club. These instruments, although they are very inexpensive, are of poor craftsmanship. These instruments will break and there are no repair shops that can fix them due to the fact that spare parts for the instruments are not manufactured. If you are able to find an instrument at a yard sale, please keep in mind that repairs might need to be done for the instrument to function properly. It is not recommended to purchase an instrument until the student has had a few months to try out the instrument. Purchased instruments to not come with insurance like a rented instrument.
Music Care and Folders: Students are responsible for their band music. Students may only use PENCIL when marking any notation on their music. Students must keep their music organized in their band folder throughout the school year. If students need to borrow music for a rehearsal, it must be signed out from the “music sign out” sheet and returned to the correct folder immediately after band rehearsal.
Practice Logs: Practice logs must be completely filled in, or you will not be given credit. Present practice logs to Mr. Cieply in your lesson.
Concert Attendance: Concert attendance is vital to a successful performance. Not performing in the concert is like missing a final for your other classes. Not performing in all concerts will make you ineligible to go on the band field trip. If for some reason you cannot come to the concert, the school must be notified before the concert. 435-4635
